Have you ever considered the fact that your HOME could be making you sick?!? Sometimes we need to put our house (or work environment) on a diet instead of ourselves! Below are several considerations to keeping your home (and yourself) as healthy as possible.
Air quality can be a major cause of concern in our health. For example, did you know that your new carpet will off-gas for 10 years?! And then we usually replace it. Furniture, cabinets (especially particle board) and city air all impact our body’s burden of what it has to put up with; if we are bogging our bodies down with poor air, everything else has to take a back seat. Improving air quality can show major improvements in allergies, mood/behavior instability, weight loss and skin problems – just to name a few! Below are brands of good air filter systems:
Water, makes up most of our body! Unfortunately, city (and often rural) water supplies are latent with prescription medications, huge amounts of chemicals (especially chlorine) and even heavy metals. These things can disrupt our endocrine systems and decrease our body’s ability to detox and repair. Don’t drink non-filtered water! If possible, avoid water stored in plastics (especially if it has been heat exposed) as they leach chemicals such as phthalates into the water which also disrupt our endocrine systems. It can also be helpful to filter your shower water, as hot water will vaporize chemicals for you to inhale while showering.
Most common household cleaners are latent with chemicals that cause more health concerns than the germs or dirt they are cleaning up!
Many of the products that we feel make us look/smell good are also full of chemicals such as phthalates, parabens and sodium lauryl sulfites (cancer causers) and heavy metals. This includes soaps, shampoos, deodorants, makeup, nail polish, cologne/perfume, etc. There are SO many chemicals, I can not provide you with an all-inclusive list, but please plug your products into the Environmental Working Group website below that rates products based on their chemical/health hazards:
Thankfully, there are now MANY products available that are free of bad chemicals. The above site also carries that information. Please do your homework before you purchase.
Stay tuned for more tips on keeping your home as healthy and vibrant as you!
